The most popular social network named “Facebook” which has huge visitors worldwide & which is the biggest hub for the Bangladeshi youngsters to gather themselves in one spot, has been stopped by the present Bangladesh government. It is worth mentioning that, Facebook was launched in Bangladesh at 2004 and more than 9 Lac Bangladeshi uses Facebook.

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regularity Commission (BTRC) sent a command letter to Bangladesh Telecommunication Company Limited (BTCL) and Mango Tele Services Limited (Who Controls Internet Gateway) to ban the Facebook in Bangladesh temporarily until the further notice to withdraw this notice. The ISP Association (An Organization of the Internet Service Provider in Bangladesh), BTCL and Mango Authority has insured this news.


In replied, the BTRC Chairmen Zia Ahmed said, some sensitive photos and cartoons were being published in Facebook which can harm the image of the Islam. Initially the BTRC was tried to stop the links from where these cartoon was being published. But, BTRC couldn’t stop these links and eventually they stopped the whole Facebook in Bangladesh.
The Chairmen also added- “after stopping the malicious and sensitive links, the Facebook will be online again for the Bangladeshis”.
An another news said- “A boy named Mahbub Alam Rodin (a Facebook user of Bangladesh) published some sarcastic cartoon of Ex-prime-minister Khaleda Zia & Present Prime-Minister Sheikh Hasina in Facebook”. A special detective team of RAB (Rapid Action Battalion) arrested this guy this morning. This can also be a reason that is why the Govt. has stopped the Facebook.
In Facebook, there are lots of cartoonified picture available where from the USA President Barak Obama to Angelina Jolee (who isn’t) everybody has been scratched. It’s just fun. I don’t know why the present government has arrested this guy (Mahbub Alam) as just he published some cartoons. It’s not a big deal I think when this government claims it is a Digital Government.
We, the Bangladeshi People who loves the Facebook, and who uses the Facebook for several e-commerce related works, hope the Government will withdraw the bans upon from Facebook as soon as possible.
